The restoration of a historic windmill in the village is nearing completion, just over one year after the planning application for the project was approved by Three Rivers District Council (TRDC).
The grade two listed building, first built around 1860, has been returned to a traditional structure, with essential repairs to the brickwork and improvements made to make the windmill a functional family home.
William Sloan, owner of the windmill, told CROXLEYNews: “I bought the derelict windmill two and a half years ago and it was in a damaged state, having not been looked after for around 50 years.
“The applications and the restoration project have been quite a long process, but we are nearly there now. I am living on site but plan to officially move into the windmill by April.”
Plans to develop and restore the historic windmill were approved by TRDC in December 2020 because of the benefits in restoring the historic building for future generations, despite previous privacy concerns from neighbours.
William added: “I took on this project because I wanted the challenge of restoring the building and giving it a new lease of life for the next 100 years.”
