ECO-2023: Three Rivers sustainability group provides green tips to save money

Published on: 3rd January 2022   |   By: Amy Pollard   |   Category: Uncategorized

As the cost-of-living crisis bites even further, we’re all looking for ways to save money.

Last month, Sustainable Three Rivers has come up with a range of tweaks you can make to your everyday life which will be kinder to your wallet and the planet.

  • Walk more. Many of us decide to join the gym in January, but you can work towards your New Year’s fitness resolutions by simply leaving the car at home for short journeys.

  • Get into cooking. Ditch the takeaways in favour of tasty home-cooked meals at a fraction of the cost.  You could try Veganuary – veggie or vegan meals are delicious and cheap.

  • Turn off your electricals at the wall. Leaving your electricals on standby wastes fuel as well as money.

  • Run appliances on eco mode. It’s easy to get used to running your machines on the same setting each time, but most modern dishwashers and washing machines have an eco-setting.

  • Install LED lightbulbs. At this dark time of year, we all have the lights on for long periods so make sure you’re using long-lasting low energy LED bulbs.

  • Earn rewards for recycling. Check out the recycling scheme at Boots, which lets you earn points for bringing in difficult-to-recycle products such as toothpaste and mascara tubes.  Marks and Spencer and John Lewis have similar schemes for recycling clothes.
