SPEEDY STREETS: Calls to lower speed limit on roads to Croxley after woman’s car damaged

A woman has called for lower speed restrictions on the roads connecting Croxley to other villages.

Claire Sheperd regularly travels to the area using the single-track country lanes between Croxley, Bovingdon and Chorleywood, most of which are national speed limit, and has recently noticed an increase in the number of vehicles using them.

She claims this has led to several incidents where vehicles take up more than their side of the road while driving towards oncoming traffic – sometimes even on blind bends.

Speaking to Croxley News, Claire said: “My car is scratched to pieces from being forced into the hedgerows to avoid these numerous incidents, and my door mirror has been hit a couple of times by large vans driving too fast despite my having stopped to let them pass.”

Claire blames sat navs for the increase in traffic on the routes.

She added: “They [Hertfordshire County Council] need to ensure that the lanes aren’t proposed as a viable option for unsuitable vehicles.

“It would also help if the speed limit was reduced to a more realistic and definitely safer 40 or even 30 miles an hour – this wouldn’t slow down idiotic drivers, but it would slow the majority.”

Hertfordshire County Council has been contacted for comment.
