Residents at a care home in Chalfont St Peter were delighted to receive a letter from Windsor Castle.
After winning Barchester’s ‘Bake a cake fit for a Queen’, Chalfont Lodge’s residents decided to celebrate the success by writing ‘an Ode to Queen Elizabeth II’, with the help of music therapist, Louise Harmer.
The words in the video sent to Windsor Castle were set to the tune of ‘Favourite Things’ from the Sound of Music.
To that, one of the Ladies-in-Waiting replied sending a ‘thank you’ letter, which mentioned: “The queen is most grateful for your message of loyal support and good wishes.”
The letter has now been framed and put on display at the Chalfont St Peter based Chalfont Lodge reception.
Raj Boodhoo, general manager said: “Residents absolutely loved the idea of having their cake brought to life and were very happy to celebrate our longest reigning monarch. It’s a testament to the activity team how the initial cake discussions developed over weeks to such a lovely letter from the Queen.
“Here at Chalfont Lodge we are continually adapting and finding new ways to make sure every effort is focused on creating an enjoyable environment for all of our residents, whilst adhering to social distancing advice.”
