Croxley runners have shared fond memories as a local parkrun celebrates its 10th anniversary.
Parkrun was started in October 2004 by Paul Sinton-Hewitt and 13 of his friends in Bushy Park.
It took 11 years for the running event to come to South West Herts, with the first one taking place on January 21, 2015.
Croxley councillor Chris Lloyd, who was then chairman of Three Rivers District Council, was invited to start the inaugural event.
Cllr Lloyd said: “Looking back, this is a day that changed my life. Since then, I have started Rickmansworth and Leavesden parkruns and Leavesden junior parkrun. I have done over 290 parkruns and volunteered more than 260 times.”
Speaking to CROXLEYnews, 85-year-old Doug Milsom, a parkrun regular, said: “I hope to carry on running, both parkrun and masters athletics competitions, as long as my health and legs are up to it. Age is just a number!”
Dr Kevin Barrett shared: “I went to my first parkrun early in 2016. I knew straightaway that this was something special; exercise surrounded by nature with a community of people supporting each other has scientifically proven benefits for wellbeing.”
