Two parks in Stanmore have been awarded prestigious Green Flag awards last month.
Stanmore Country Park and Canons Park were highly rated by the international scheme that praises green spaces of the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has good visitor facilities.
The country park was one of nine green spaces in the UK to achieve the community award which judges the space on seven qualities; safety, community involvement, biodiversity, welcoming appeal, maintainment and park management.
The 18 hectare Canons Park retained its Green Flag status since its restoration of some historical features in the park, including George V memorial garden.
These green spaces are among a record 1,970 parks across the UK that have achieved the prestigious status.
Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said: “It’s fantastic that we have more Green Flag Awards in the UK than ever before, joined this year by 126 international winners.”
“Each flag honours the thousands of staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award. We congratulate each and every winner on their fantastic achievement.”
