Watford Harriers Athletics Club celebrated the impressive milestone of 100 years of coaching and competition in 2025.
The club first brought athletics to the town in 1925, when the track was opened by the late Prince Phillip.
Over the last century, many talented athletes have stepped foot on its tracks, and Woodside Stadium has provided some of the best facilities and coaching in Southern England for athletics, cross country and road running.
Earlier this year, the club celebrated 100 years with a centenary dinner, with past and present Watford Harriers in attendance. Olympic athlete Phoebe Gill, Commonwealth Games marathon runner Danielle Sanderson, and Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor also attended.
Alastair Mann, the club’s chairman, coach and athlete, said: “As we celebrate our 100th birthday, I could not be prouder of the club’s performance across all age groups this year. But for me, Watford Harriers is not only about medals, times, or league positions. It is about creating a welcoming, inclusive community that everyone can feel a part of, whatever their ability or ambition. As I look ahead to the 2026 season, my hope is that we continue to grow not just as competitors, but as a community.”
