A group of eight friends took on the London Marathon last month and raised more than £60,000 for charity.
Abbots Langley residents Sonia Felton, Tess McDonald, Gayle Vowels, Tracy Gravatt and Amrit Bal-Richards were joined by Kelly Cassidy, Jillian Barry and Lottie Kennedy for the 26.2-mile race on April 23.
The friends ran for five different charities: Whizz-Kidz, Make A Wish, Hospice UK, Dementia UK and NSPCC.
Sonia described the journey to completing the race as “incredible, from early morning training runs (including a spontaneous 24 hours in Dublin) to the actual day itself”.
She said: “We had such a great time. We are all a bit sore but it was amazing. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t on our side and we were all soaked at the start line.
“We arranged to meet at mile four and ran together until around mile 13. We had a great big banner on a building next to Tower Bridge and held hands as we ran across.”
Sonia added that there was a great atmosphere during the race.
She said: “We had so many supporters there; there wasn’t a part of the route where there weren’t any supporting spectators.
“The money we’ve raised is not from big companies; it’s all come from friends and family.”
