SNACK OFF: Over 150 Bushey residents donate snacks to NHS staff

Published on: 19th January 2021   |   By: Lizzie Ellis   |   Category: Uncategorized

A couple from Bushey has turned their driveway into a donation point for snacks for NHS staff and local food banks.

Laura Bloomberg organised the Snack Off event, which took place on Sunday, January 17, to give NHS staff access to quick and easy snacks.

Over the course of the day over 150 people from Bushey and surrounding areas generously donated individually wrapped food and drink items for NHS doctors, nurses and paramedics on the go.

Laura said: “The turnout was unbelievable. For me, the best part was that the community pulled together yet again. People are desperate to show their support but they don’t know how to. I felt proud to be part of the Bushey community and humbled to offer such fantastic donations to good causes at this time.”

Laura and husband Spencer took seven carloads full of food donations to You Donate…We Deliver (YDWD) which supplies food donations to NHS staff. The couple also donated items to local food banks in Bushey and Borehamwood.

Laura continued: “NHS staff don’t always have time to sit down, take off their PPE and eat a full meal, and paramedics can spend hours waiting to get into hospitals. We want to offer easy grab and go snacks for them.”

After the success of the event, Laura and Spencer have decided to offer their driveway as a collection point for residents to drop food items every Sunday for the foreseeable future.

Individually wrapped snacks such as crisps, cereal bars, chocolate bars, and drinks can be dropped at 1, Little Potters, WD23 between 10am and 1pm each Sunday.
