An Apsley resident has been cast in Pretty Woman: The Musical in the West End.

Andy Barke, acting teacher at Smash Arts Theatre company, has taken on the principle role of Happy Man/Mr Thompson in the popular West End show.

He said performing in the show, which is currently on at the Savoy Theatre in London, has been really good fun so far.

Dani Acors, co-founder of Smash Arts Theatre company, said sharing her own and the other teachers’ professional experience in the West End was the reason they set up the company.

She said: “It’s exciting for Andy; it’s amazing. That’s our world and is what has pushed us to create Smash Arts and give these opportunities to young people in the area.

“We are so passionate about it. The whole point is to recreate what we have experienced professionally.”

The company’s next performance, High School Musical, will take place in April.
