A nine-year-old runner has raised vital funds for Pumpkin’s Wildlife Hospital in Rickmansworth.
William Radclyffe joined 30 of his classmates from Harvey Road Primary School in Croxley to run the Mini London Marathon on Saturday, April 20.
The Mini Marathon challenges children to run the final mile of the London Marathon, passing landmarks such as Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament.
William raised £170 through the run, which he has now donated to Pumpkin’s Wildlife Hospital.
He comes from a family of runners and his father, Charlie Radclyffe, ran the London Marathon the day after William completed his own race.
A representative for Pumpkin’s said: “We first met William and his mum a few weeks ago when they came to an event. They told us that William had been inspired to run the Mini London Marathon and, although he did not need to raise any money, he decided to on our behalf.
“He likes to help wildlife and brought a little mouse to us that he had rescued.
“William did a fantastic job on his run and we will use the funds towards providing food and medicines for all our current patients.”
The hospital rehabilitates sick and injured animals and currently cares for an abundance of pigeons, foxes, hedgehogs and more.
Veterinary surgeon Ana Lapaz-Mendez founded Pumpkin’s Wildlife Hospital in 2005, and named the charity after a fox which was seriously injured after being hit by a car.
The hospital’s website states: “Ana promised Pumpkin that she would do whatever she could to prevent this kind of thing from ever happening again. So Ana and Pumpkin created a team and together they created the wildlife hospital.”
