SLOWED DOWN: New speed restrictions on Northwood main road get mixed response

Published on: 13th June 2022   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

The reduction of the speed limit on a stretch of Ducks Hill Road in Northwood from 50mph to 40mph has received a mixed response from residents.

Taking to Facebook, some have praised the decision as well thought out road safety measure, while others believe the new restriction wastes time.

One resident stated: “Totally ridiculous. By all means enforce the 30 [the 30mph zone later on down the road], but there are no accidents in the urban clearway zone. Haven’t been for over a decade.”

Another disagreed, saying: “Makes complete sense. Very little need or point in having a 50-mph limit for such a short section of road. It will cost you 24 seconds extra to travel the reduced section and the majority of the time you will sit in traffic at either end.”

When contacted about the issue, a spokesperson for Hillingdon Borough Council explained the speed restriction change was part of a wider development across the borough implemented due to petitioning residents.

“New speed limits have been introduced in Harvil Road, Breakspear Road, Ducks Hill Road and other nearby routes after local residents petitioned the council for action.

“The council secured funding for these changes from HS2 Ltd as its construction traffic and the knock-on effect of its work in this area on other traffic has been a major issue of concern to the council and local residents.”
