Several pupils from a school in St Albans have taken home the gold following a swimming championship.

Students from the St Columbas College in the city recently took part in the WGS Events World Swim Series Championships, taking home a ton of medals in addition to a new World Record.

The Lower Sixth students representing the school, Valeria and Antonia, took home several gold medals in both individual and team events.

Caitlin won five gold medals and set a new WSG Event Series World Record in the U17 Girls’ 50M Breaststroke.

Speaking about the championships, Mrs Stott, who accompanied the team to the two-day event, congratulated those who took part.

She said: “Well done to all the boys and girls. They all swam really well and are a credit to their school, families and coaches. They gained valuable experience and had fun!”

Mrs Stott added that the championships was a valuable experience that they hope to return to in the future.

She said: “We are delighted to be an inaugural partner of the World Swim Championships. It was a well-organised exciting event, at a fantastic facility.

“All our swimmers enjoyed the experience, and for many it was their first visit to the Olympic Park.

“This is definitely an event we hope to participate in again in the future.”

The swimmers representing St Columba’s College at the WSG Events World Swim Series Championships were: Caitlin H, Valeria G, Charlie S, George H, Ollie G, Issac N, Rhys T, Brayan A, Charlie L, Joshua B and Antonia J.
