‘SIGNIFICANT DETRIMENT’: Environmental impact request submitted for 60-bed care home near Amersham rugby club

An environmental impact assessment (EIA) request has been submitted for proposals for a new care home on green belt land next to a rugby club in Amersham.

Westbournes submitted the request alongside Amersham and Chiltern Rugby Football Club (ACRFC). The scheme includes a 60-bed care home on green belt land between ACRFC’s proposed new 3G surface and Windmill Wood. The care home would have four floors, with an internal area of 3,797 square metres.

Four new padel tennis courts, a new gym extended from the clubhouse, and an improved car park would also be built should the plan be approved. The scheme also includes a plan to construct a new pond, which will manage drainage from the site.

At the time of writing, six people have objected to the suggestion that the plan would not need an EIA.

Resident Caitriona Doris said: “It would create a significant detriment and impact to residents’ amenities by losing easy access to open space.”

ACRFC and Westbournes have been contacted for comment.
