LATE WINNER: Kings Langley FC prevail in five-goal thriller against Nuneaton Borough

Kings Langley FC picked up their first three points of the season this weekend against Nuneaton Borough, after both sides played out a five-goal thriller.

There was late drama at The Orbital Fasteners Stadium with the winner coming in the dying minutes of the game thanks to a stunning strike from Jordan Parkes.

Kings were positive coming into the game after winning their FA Cup tie on penalties during the week, and Chris Cummins’ men took the lead inside the first 15 minutes courtesy of Eduard Toiny-Pendred with a close-range effort. 1-0

The away side were pressing heavily for an equaliser straight away though as Kings survived a goalmouth scramble and a couple of penalty shouts.

Nuneaton’s best chance to equalise before half time was from the penalty spot in the 42nd minute, but a poor penalty allowed Kings’ goalkeeper Alex Tokarczyk to save the effort comfortably.

It was a nightmare start to the second half for the home side though with former Reading and Swansea City player Leroy Lita scoring twice inside the opening 10 minutes of the half. 1-2

The goals kept coming though, and Nuneaton only had the lead for two minutes as Bradley Wadkins got on the end of a cross from the left-hand side and made no mistake with the finish. 2-2

Both sides were searching for the all-important winner in the latter stages of the game, and it took a sensational strike from Jordan Parkes from around 25-yards out for Kings Langley to steal all three points. 3-2

After the disappointment of last weekend which saw a 3-2 defeat at Stratford Town end their 2020 winning streak, manager Chris Cummins will be delighted that his side have managed to bounce back at the first time of asking against a strong Nuneaton side.

Next up is more league action with another home game against St Ives Town coming on Tuesday evening, before the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round on the weekend against Barking.
