A Watford-based vital charity that helps people with mobility challenges wants to encourage more business to sponsor its services.
Shopmobility loans wheelchairs and scooters to anyone with a mobility problem, whether permanent or temporary, through accident, illness, or age. The shop allows people to hire equipment in exchange for a small donation.
With a lack of funds, the shop which serves hundreds of vulnerable users wants to encourage nearby businesses to sponsor their scooters as well as urging residents to use its services.
Nicola Phelan, a volunteer, and a long-term user of the shop described the services as a “lifeline opportunity”.
She said: “Shopmobility Watford enables me to go around Watford and go into the shops I wouldn’t usually do if I didn’t have a mobility scooter.”
Nicola wants to break the stigma of people using the scooters as it gives them the opportunity to get out the house and go wherever they want to go as it gives its users greater independence.
