An opportunist thief stole cash from the till of a shop in Radlett.
The man went into Home Needs on Watling Street at 2.15pm on Monday, August 5, and asked the shop owner, Mansoor Aria, to grab something which was in the back room.
When Mansoor returned the man had left the shop with several £20 notes.
Mansoor said: “I was really shocked that this happened as this is the first time something like this has happened to me.”
Mansoor, who lives in Edgeware, has owned the shop for almost three years and thanked Radlett residents for their support.
He added: “The community has been very helpful and showed their sympathy with me. Some of them have been coming to the shop to show their support.
Hertfordshire Constabulary has opened an investigation.
