SHENLEY SK8: Christmas saved for Radlett residents by community ice rink

Published on: 14th October 2020   |   By: Jake Levison   |   Category: Uncategorized

Shenley and Radlett residents’ Christmas just got a whole lot better, as the Café in the Orchard has announced it will have an ice rink at Shenley Park this winter.

The Shenley café, with help from Lee Raw of Proactive Events, will convert the Shenley tennis courts (pictured) into an open-air ice rink, which will be named Shenley Sk8, and residents can get skating from November 26.

Alex Black, Café in the Orchard owner, told RadlettNews: “We’ve wanted to do this for a long time now, but never quite had the opportunity. But with people unable to go away this year due to the pandemic, we thought this would give the community a bit of a boost and it’s given us enough time to plan it out.

“The ice rink will be open from November 26 until January 4, but if there’s lots of demand it may be extended and possibly brought back next year as well.

“We’ve planned things out in depth and made sure it will be completely COVID secure.

“It will be reduced to half capacity, so only 60 people at a time, with people booking in advance online and giving their contact details.

“We’ll also make sure we’re regularly sanitising the rails. But the great thing about this is that it’s open air, so there’s no more risk being on the rink than there is in walking outside.

“We’re extremely excited about setting this up – as I said, it’s something we’ve wanted to do for a really long time.”

RadlettNews will keep residents updated on Shenley Sk8 in the following weeks.
