Police have calmed the fears of Hemel Hempstead residents after they expressed concerns over a convicted paedophile, who has been released from jail, wondering around a play area in town.
Detective Superintendent Mike Trotman, head of safeguarding, said: “Officers in the Constabulary’s Public Protection Unit (PPU) strictly monitor and manage all registered sex offenders residing in Hertfordshire.
“Public safety is at the forefront of their strategic work, which they do in close partnership with other agencies and police forces.
“They monitor offenders in a number of ways, including carrying out regular home visits, monitoring their internet and usage of electronic devices, creating risk management plans and dealing with any breaches of court orders.
“The offenders’ information is also shared with local officers, who are informed of any court order restrictions so they can feed back to the PPU with any intelligence or information.”
If anyone believes a person is acting suspiciously in a public place then they can report this information by calling the non-emergency number 101 or dialling 999 if they believe there is an immediate danger.
