MASK UP: Stanmore resident’s anger at tube passenger refusing to wear face mask

Published on: 29th September 2020   |   By: Holly Bullen   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Stanmore resident has spoken out after she felt unsafe whilst using the tube because of people not wearing face masks.

Claire Gordon, who lives in Stanmore, recently had a heated discussion with a man on the tube who was not wearing a mask, not because he was exempt but because he believed it was his right not to.

Face masks are now mandatory for everyone on public transport, minus those who are exempt for medical reasons.

Claire said: “It is just a real bug bear of mine. I did ask him calmly and politely, but he was very rude and started spouting about his free choice.”

Claire added that after having a conversation with her daughter she does not understand why this law is being treated differently to others.

She said: “People are breaking the law because they feel they have the right to refuse and are putting others at risk.

“There will be repercussions for all of us and we will be in lockdown for longer.”
