Battlers Green Farm Shop in Radlett has been nominated for best farm shop/deli in the Muddy Stilettos Awards.
It was not long after the Haworth family moved to Radlett in 1960, that Joan Haworth opened the farm shop. The Haworth family has been at Battlers Green Farm ever since, and the shop is currently run by Gillian Haworth, Joan’s daughter-in-law.
At the age of 91, Joan Haworth still lives in the farmhouse, and the building now known as The Battlers Green Farm Shop was built in 1985 by Joan’s husband, Tom.
RADLETTnews spoke to the farm about their achievement.
A spokesperson said: “We’re very proud to have been recognised by our loyal customers, especially as we’re flying the flag as the only Radlett-based business to make the finals in any category. It’s a feather in the cap for Gillian and her team, and Joan who is delighted that the shop is doing so well.
“Winning this award would mean a great deal to Gillian and the team who all work so hard to source, stock, and sell the fabulous range of products that we have on offer.”
The farm has developed its product range over time, adding homemade goods to the milk and eggs which have been on offer since 1960.
They added: “The farm shop’s introduction and continued popularity is to serve the local community with a wide range of everyday goods, showcasing the very best from Britain’s producers.”
The regional award winners will be announced on Wednesday, April 30, with the national finals on Wednesday June 25.
