PLAYING ON: Historic brass band seeks out new members

Published on: 27th January 2022   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

A brass band that has been running for over 125 years is looking for new members to join its number.

The Watford Brass Band, made up of amateur musicians, was founded in 1894 and has been making music in a friendly environment ever since, performing in concerts across the county, as well at charity events, park bandstands, contests and garden parties.

However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic the band has struggled financially as of late, with recruitment being a key objective to help keep the band’s future going.

Musical Director Ian Graves said: “Recruiting new players is a priority of the band to ensure it will last for another 125 years and we want to continue entertaining the people of Watford and the surrounding areas.

“One of the highlights of last year was the first concert we were allowed to perform post lockdown at the Cassiobury Park bandstand (although still socially distanced!). It was so good to see people enjoying the music whilst relaxing having gone through such a stressful time.”

The brass band is also asking if anyone needs a band for any events their planning, whether that be a concert, wedding, festival or any other kind of occasion. They are currently a registered charity so any donations to keep them going would also be welcome.

To find out more about joining or hiring the band, please call 07796 175838 or email them at enquiries@watfordband.org.uk. They can also be found on social media @WatfordBand on Facebook or @thewatfordband on Instagram. Alternatively, there is their website at www.watfordband.org.uk.
