The headteacher of a Bushey independent school will depart at the end of the year.

Emma Gray, headteacher of St Margaret’s Junior School, Merry Hill Road, will leave the school to take up a new position in January 2027 after a six-year tenure.

Prior to taking up her role at St Margaret’s in 2020, Gray was assistant head at York House School in Croxley Green.

Gray will take up the position of headteacher at Felsted Prep School in Essex in January. It is unclear whether St Margaret’s has a replacement lined up.

Mike Beale, Felsted School’s chairman of governors, said:

“Emma is an experienced educational leader with more than 20 years in independent education and a strong track record of delivering growth, transformation and strategic development within junior and prep school settings.”

He added:

“Currently head of the junior school at St Margaret’s, Bushey, Emma provides strategic leadership from Nursery to Year 6 while contributing significantly to whole school strategy, development and long-term sustainability within a through-school environment.

“During her time at St Margaret’s she has led a period of exceptional growth, driving curriculum innovation and building a programme of enhanced community engagement.”
