INSPIRING: Bushey resident takes on marathon mission to raise money for charity

Published on: 18th April 2022   |   By: Holly Bullen   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Bushey resident whose life was changed forever when she was diagnosed with an incurable disease is taking on a charity challenge after raising more than £40,000 last year.

Juliet Coffer, was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis, an incurable lung condition, around six years ago and has been attached to oxygen 24 hours a day since.

Last year, Juliet set out with the dream to complete her own marathon by walking 3,000 metres in 30 days and raised nearly £42,000 for Sarcoidosis UK.

After struggling to walk more than 100m a day this was a massive feat for Juliet.

Now one year on, Juliet is taking on her Hallway Hike, doubling her usual walking distance of around 30m in day all in aid of charity.

Speaking to BusheyNews, Juliet said she was amazed at the people who had donated so far after smashing her £1,000 target.

She said: “I’m making a determined effort to spread the awareness of sarcoidosis again and raise money for charity.

“For me as well, it shows it doesn’t matter how disabled I am, I’ve got to keep getting up and doing stuff.”

Juliet continued that the challenge is taking longer than expected but she’s determined not to give up.

She said: “Because I’m poorly, I’m about 30 per cent behind, about three days behind but however long it takes for me to do all the laps I will do it till I finish.

“Even if it takes me until Christmas 2024, I’m not going to stop.”

So far Juliet has raised more than £4,000 for the charity.
