Fire services were called out just after midday on Saturday, 18th July after reports of a fire on farmland along Little Green Lane in Croxley Green.
Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue attended the scene with eight fire engines, a water bowser, drone and nebula misting vehicle.
Greg Duke, Area Commander for Herts Fire and Rescue told CroxleyNews that when crews arrived the fire “was spreading rapidly and heading towards nearby homes.”
“Our crews worked hard to protect these properties and were able to successfully contain the fire.
“Residents from Little Green Lane were asked to evacuate their homes as a precaution”
Residents neighboring the fields reported that they could smell a strong burning smell bef0re seeing the huge flames and smoke from their windows.
The enormous cloud of smoke from the fire could be seen in Watford, and Bushey.
Croxley Green Parish Council reported the fire was “under control” by 3pm on 18th July, with fire crews dampening any remaining hot spots.
Residents were told by Herts Fire and Rescue to report any signs of reignition immediately.
