‘RURAL IDYLL’: Chorleywood village listed as one of the best in the country

A national newspaper has listed Chorleywood as the fourth most desirable place to live in the country.

The Telegraph narrowed down a list of the 50 most coveted places to live that offer a great quality of life.

The listings were dominated by the south east with Hertfordshire having four locations inside the top 10.

They include Berkhamsted, St Albans and Harpenden which came out as number one in the listings.

The Telegraph listed Chorleywood’s good transport links, proximity to Buckinghamshire’s grammar schools and The Common as its key features.

These locations scored the highest across several factors, according to analysis by Savills, including the proportion of residents holding managerial and professional jobs, their level of qualifications and the state of their health.

The listings also demonstrate that despite the desirability of the top locations, such as Chorleywood, house prices have fallen.

In half of the top 20 most desirable locations, average property values have fallen or have been at a standstill in the period between June 2024 and August 2025.

In Chorleywood the average property price dropped from £1.1m in 2024 to £984,000 in 2025.

Elle Coles, of Strutt & Parker, say Chorleywood Common is what sets the village apart with its 185 acres “where you will find everyone at the weekend”.

They added: “It has a real feel of a rural idyll, yet you’re just off the M25, and London is only half an hour away on the train.”
