A rugby club celebrated its centenary season by hosting a match against the side they played in their inaugural game 100 years ago.
On Saturday, December 28, Amersham & Chiltern RFC (ACRFC) played the Wanderers and the Old Berkhamstedians to celebrate the club’s first match on Boxing Day in 1924 against Berkhamsted. This club no longer exists, but they were temporarily resurrected for the day.
Despite the momentous occasion, the club lost 2-1 to Berko and 3-2 to the Wanderers.
Speaking to AMERSHAMnews, ACRFC chair Huw Thomas said: “The game is the club’s way of keeping in touch with players away at college.”
The club has also been collecting donations for their Centenary Fund to upgrade their facilities. To donate, visit www.t.ly/H7kNk
