REPAIRED: Burnout and vandalised park facilities are back in use

A much loved and extensively used facility for young people in Central Watford has been brought back into use at great expense by Watford Council.

The burnt-out and vandalised rope climbing frame and slide in Waterfields Recreation Ground, has now been fully repaired and is once available for use by the community.

The rope climbing frame and slide which was installed by the council back in 2015 was set on fire and badly damaged in April by two vandals.

Thanks to local residents coming forward with information, the Police have arrested two people who are awaiting court proceedings.

Due the serious damage, experts had to assess the structure and then order a large replacement from the manufacturers in Austria.

The rope structure and top housing was destroyed and the slide damaged by heat.

Watford Borough Councillor, Steve Bolton, said: “I am pleased the great piece of play equipment is now fully restored and I know the council worked hard to get it done as soon as it could.

“It’s a disgrace that mindless vandals have deprived local children of having fun on it during the Summer and I hope that in due course the courts will see fit if they are found guilty to ensure compensation is paid to the Council.

“I would also like to pay tribute to our police who acted so promptly.”
