An “anti-social” waste and storage yard has been refused permission to operate permanently, following a long campaign by North Bushey’s Lib Dem councillors.
All Storage London (ASL), on Bushey Hall Road, is accused of causing environmental damage, as well as considerable noise from lorries.
The waste site was set up last year without planning permission. After a council enforcement process, ASL later submitted a planning application, but this was refused by Hertsmere Borough Council in February.
The grounds for refusal include visual impact, noise and disruption to residents, and hazards to pedestrians from lorries exiting the site. There were also concerns over flooding, the removal of trees, and the company’s failure to demonstrate that its operations aren’t causing contamination.
ASL now has six months to appeal. Otherwise, the company must cease operations.
North Bushey Lib Dem councillor Louise Nicolas said: “ASL is a blight on this neighbourhood. The sooner they’re gone, the better.
“We thank all the residents who helped with this campaign.”
ASL has been contacted for comment.
