The community braved scorching temperatures on Saturday, July 12, for Abbots Langley Parish Council’s (ALPC) V80 Picnic in the Park.
Taking place at the Manor House Recreation Ground, the free event was held to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
There was live music from Welwyn U3A, Bushey and District Jazz Ensemble, and Fiona Harrison, along with the Jiveswing Jitterbugs dancing to entertain the crowd. In addition, there were exhibits courtesy of Warner Bros. and the Lincolnsfields Centre.
To conclude ALPC’s V80 events, residents are invited to attend the VJ Day Beacon Lighting ceremony at 9pm on Friday, August 15.
Councillor Jane Lay, chairman of ALPC, said: “What a lovely day, despite the heat. We invite the community again to commemorate and remember those who died with courage as a result of this terrible, cruel war on VJ Day, August 15.
“We welcome you to come to the Manor House Grounds to light the beacon with the Royal British Legion, the Veterans Support Group, clergy, and Watford Brass Band. We will remember them.”
