A ferocious fire broke out near the railway tracks at Watford Junction late last night (August 24), sending smoke across the town.
The blaze, which started at around 8.11pm, was confirmed to have been a garden fire on Trinity Hall Close, in an area of vegetation between Orphanage Road and the railway tracks.
No one was injured in the incident.
Four fire engines from Watford, Garston and St Albans fire stations attended the scene, with crews wearing breathing apparatus as they tackled the blaze.
A spokesperson for Hertfordshire County Council’s Command and Control said: “This was a fire in an open space that ended up requiring 4 pumps at Trinity Hall Close. It was a fire in a garden, close to the railway track.”
Network Rail had earlier described the incident as a fire “next to the track in the Watford Junction area”.
The fire was extinguished on Monday night, although disruption to train services continued until the end of the day.
Train services have since returned to normal today.
