As the 110th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War approaches this November, residents are invited to join a special Remembrance initiative.
Back in November 2018, during the centenary of the war coming to an end, Croxley Green History Project (CGHP) undertook a major project to look at the effects of the conflict on the village.
They researched and found more than 400 local residents who fought in the war, many of whom were just old enough to enlist. As part of the commemorations, they then printed out a selection of posters for Croxley residents to put in their windows. These were given exclusively to those who lived in homes formerly occupied by First World War soldiers. These posters simply read ‘Lest We Forget’.
For the 110th anniversary, CGHP is asking that residents dig out their old posters and display them once again for November’s Remembrance week.
