Following the sad death of Her Majesty the Queen on Thursday, September 8, residents across Rickmansworth and the wider Three Rivers area have been paying tribute to the monarch and welcoming the newly crowned King Charles III.
One such resident was 9-year-old Jess Allsopp, who was surprised to receive a letter from the royal household shortly after her passing, with the date on the letter being just before the Queen’s passing.
It was in response to a letter the young schoolgirl had sent in May, congratulating the monarch on reaching her Platinum Jubilee and that they had similar interests, such as dogs and horses, with pictures of Jess’ dog Lexi and of her first riding lesson.
In the letter, written by the Queen’s lady-in-waiting, Susan Rhodes, it states: “The Queen wishes me to write and thank you for your letter, and for the photographs you enclosed for Her Majesty to see.
“The Queen thought it kind of you to write to her and, although unable to reply personally to all the many letters she receives each day, Her Majesty was pleased to learn that you too like horses.”
Jess said: “It felt so special to get this, and it shows she really cared about everyone.”
