‘REGRETTABLE SITUATION’: Work on new Abbots Langley development pauses as contractor ceases trading

Published on: 19th July 2025   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

Work to deliver 18 affordable homes at Northcotts, Long Elms Close, has ceased after the contractor went into administration.

In a letter to residents, Watford Community Housing (WCH), which is responsible for the scheme, explained that contractor Elements Europe went into administration on Wednesday, June 4, and stopped trading.

Nick Wright, assistant director of partnerships, wrote: “This is a regrettable situation, but beyond our control. Please note that we remain fully committed to delivering these much-needed homes. We are working hard to find a replacement contractor and hope to start work as soon as possible.”

WCH has installed 24/7 security on site in an effort to keep “the site secure and to safeguard… neighbours”.

Abbots Langley county councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst OBE said: “I met with WCH’s CEO last week and, along with other issues, we discussed the above. Clearly, this is disappointing to say the least.”

Neighbours and residents can email partnerships@wcht.org.uk with any questions about the delay.
