Vintage Affair boosts Northwood Hospice

The Michael Sobell Hospice Vintage Affair event was held on July 13 and it was a real success as they managed to raise over £4,000 which will go towards patient care at the hospice in Northwood. The event was opened by the new Mayor of Hillingdon, Councillor Catherine Dann and Mayoress, Mrs Rita Kilroy. Michael Sobell Hospice is the Mayor’s adopted charity for her Charity Appeal 2014/2015 and the day kicked off with the sounds of the Stardust Big Band. There was a display of classic cars for people to enjoy brought in by the Uxbridge and District Classic Vehicle Society and many stalls to browse around including vintage clothes, jewellery, china and lavender. In the morning, visitors enjoyed homemade cakes and tea whilst listening to live music from Double Vision Duo, and the children danced along with Jimmy Jam Tots Bear from the Windmill Studios in Ruislip. There were also Red Cross massages available, all money raised by the Red Cross on the day was donated to the charity. In the afternoon the MSH Vintage Tea Rooms were opened, and guests were served a full afternoon tea with bubbly and treated to a whole afternoon of entertainment including the sounds of the Tony Oliver Jazz Band, Rock Chorus Choir and a performance from Jiveswing.com. Beverley Garber, a volunteer at Michael Sobell Hospice who organised the event for the fourth year in a row, said: The event was a great success with a nostalgic vibe throughout the day. We couldn’t have put on this event without the wonderful support of everyone involved. All the cakes were made by volunteers and all of the entertainment was freely given. I think that everyone is aware of the wonderful care that the hospice provides to local people and they just want to contribute in some way towards it.
