Everyone Active, the owners of Watford Central Leisure Centre and Watford Woodside Leisure Centre, are working in partnership with Watford Borough Council to provide free membership for children in care.
This has been done as part of their new plan to help break down barriers between children (ages 0-15) and young people (ages 16-25) participating in sport and other physical activity.
The free membership shall provide access to a variety of facilities depending on their age, including gym, swim, soft play and group exercise. With the strategy aimed at improving the mental and physical wellbeing of children and young people.
This programme was released as part of Everyone Active’s national Community Health and Wellbeing Strategy – which was launched this year, with its aim to support individual communities through specialised programmes to promote healthy living and living a physically active life.
Everyone Active’s contract manager, Karl Miles, said: “We want to provide opportunities for young people and children who have been in or currently are in care, that activity is for all, and we want to offer them a safe space to enjoy our sports and activity offering.”
The elected mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, commented “The free membership will help young people in care not only for now, but also for the future.
“By giving those in carefree access to our state-of-the-art facilities, including swimming pools and gyms, they can reap the rewards of sport and physical activity in a safe and supportive environment.”
