A charity has opened in Bushey, providing a hub for the Muslim community seven days a week.
Bushey Islamic Circle (BIC) previously rented a hall in Bushey Centre once a week for Friday prayers. After suggesting to Bushey Grove Leisure Centre that they use the space on a more permanent basis, the group now rents the hall full time.
The centre joins Jewish, Christian and Jain centres along what has come to be known as Bushey’s ‘Multifaith Mile’.
Adnan, from BIC, said: “We’re not a mosque but a centre which has a prayer facility alongside hosting a weekly youth club, ladies’ health and wellbeing classes, men’s fitness classes, tuition and talks. We’re a real hub, catering for people of the Islamic faith in the same way people of other faiths are catered for in the community.
“While it is still temporary – we are tenants – it makes it easier for Muslim residents in Bushey to pray. Otherwise, residents get stuck in half an hour of traffic travelling to nearby mosques in Watford and Borehamwood.”
