Garston Bowls Club prodigy Dylan Martin has been shortlisted for the Rising Star of the Year (male) award at the 2025 Bowls England Awards.
Dylan, 17, who is a formidable talent, won silver in the National U25 Singles Final in August.
The year prior, he became the youngest winner of the Herts County Two Bowl Singles.
Dylan told GARSTONnews: “It feels great to have been nominated and recognised for the achievements of last summer.
“Lots of people have been really nice and I’ve had load of support and congratulatory messages.”
The winners of the 2025 Bowls England Awards will be announced on Saturday, February 22.
Posting on their website, Bowls England said: “Dylan Martin made a significant impact this year. His impressive journey at the Aviva National Bowls Finals, where he qualified in five events, including beating a previous national champion in the Champion of Champions, highlighted his dedication and talent.”
Despite placing in national and regional competitions, it was the Garston Bowls Club memorial gala – an annual event held in memory of his mother – that was Dylan’s favourite moment of the season.
He said: “The highlight was one of my little brothers ditching the Jack to win our mum’s (Diana Martin) memorial gala day at Garston.”
Family is at the centre of bowls for Dylan, as his dad has played for as long as he can remember and inspired him to take up the sport.
Looking ahead to 2025, Dylan would like to break into the U18 England Team and try to win a national title. His ultimate dream would be to be to play bowls for England at the Commonwealth Games.
