QUICK TURNAROUND: Drama Spectrum in Bushey enjoys smooth online transition during lockdown

A local theatre and singing school has completely transformed their way of working due to the coronavirus pandemic, by moving the whole organisation online.

Drama Spectrum, who were usually based at Peters Parish Hall in Bushey Heath, have been established for 23 years and they decided to offer their loyal students and the local community a two-week extravaganza by creating two musicals remotely.

They have been shocked but delighted with the turnaround and the response from the students and have just completed their first ever Zoom Summer School.

Lindsey Runnette, who runs the school, said: “We thought it would be very irresponsible to stay open at the start of March, but we did everything we could to keep things rolling online.

“We wanted to create the two musicals to ensure the children had something to look forward to, and then we carried it on throughout the summer.

“I have been so impressed with some of the online elements, it is a fantastic communication tool and something that we really never thought we would be using.

“It’s gone really successfully, but we do want to get back to physical meetings as soon as possible. One-on-one interaction is so important to some of the students, so hopefully we can get back in September.”

The Zoom meetings have meant that students can enjoy what they offer from anywhere, with one specific child having moved to Scotland recently, but could start classes with them once again through Zoom.
