PUPPY LOVE: St Albans community rallies to support man and dogs who fell on hard times

St Albans residents have raised more than £11,000 for a homeless man who was living in his car with his five dogs.

When it was widely discovered, through the creation of a JustGiving page, that Colin was living in his car with his five chocolate Labradors, St Albans residents were shocked and saddened in equal measure.

The fundraising page reads: “I’m raising £5,000 to get Colin and his five beloved dogs a safe and warm place to call home.

“He is currently living in dire conditions in his car. The solution is not yet known but he’s a good, clean man, who once upon a time had a typical life – a home, job, a wife. A bad accident resulted in him losing everything.”

The author of the fundraiser was concerned for Colin’s life due to the recent periods of cold weather.

In an interview with BBC Three Counties Radio on Monday, January 27, Colin said that he “can’t thank them enough” for everyone’s kind donations, which almost brought him to tears.

Colin revealed that he lost his job after suffering from an injury, leading to him becoming bankrupt and then homeless.

He explained that no one would house him due to his five dogs, leaving him with no option but to stay in his car.

Colin would never entertain the idea of leaving his beloved pets.

He said: “They rely on me as much as I rely on them. They are just my big family.”

The author of the fundraiser posted an update on Facebook and said: “Colin is currently safe, warm and so grateful.”

The total currently sits at £11,025 and is still open for donations at www.shorturl.at/CbwvS
