A burglar has been sentenced to eight months in prison after persistently targeting Watford businesses.

George Mitchell, 27, of Charter Place, Watford, was arrested after committing two offences on Wednesday, February 19.

The first offence was at Ocean Bells Coffee on the High Street, where Mitchell stole a mobile phone, and the second was at Kismat Tandoori next to Bushey Arches, where he stole electronic devices and cash.

Mitchell was arrested on Saturday, March 1, and charged with both offences on Sunday, March 2.

He appeared at Hatfield Remand Court on Monday, March 3, where he pleaded guilty to both burglaries and received an eight-month prison sentence.

Detective Sergeant Andy Metselaar, from the Watford Local Crime Unit, said: “Mitchell has shown flagrant disregard for other people’s businesses and property, and his offending is causing harm to our communities. We want this to serve as a message to other criminals that we will never be complacent; we will continue to detect and disrupt chronic offenders in our efforts to make Watford a safer place.”
