FULL STEAM AHEAD: New platform project at Ruislip Lido Railway progresses with speed

Published on: 14th November 2021   |   By: Holly Bullen   |   Category: Uncategorized

Ruislip Lido Railway is set to have an exciting new addition with work on the new Willow Lawn Platform well underway.

Announcing the start of the work on the new platform at the end of September, the team shared that they would be posting regular updates of the progress made by TriAgg construction.

Chris Ladyman, one of the directors at Ruislip Lido Railway, spoke to NorthwoodNews about the benefits the platform will offer.

He said: The new island platform at Willow Lawn gives us two new platform faces, which will allow us to operate enhanced services during special events and opens up a number of interesting possibilities for potential visiting locomotives and rolling stock.

“The new platform is 5 metres longer and 1 metre wider than the existing platform which will make it far more efficient to operate from. The platform also incorporates low level lighting which will be useful during the times when we operate trains after dusk, primarily the yearly Santa specials.”

Chris added that the platform project is a long time coming, with the official opening set for spring 2022.

He said: “The platform can be seen as the final piece of the plan put together by the founding members of the Ruislip Lido Railway Society back in the early 1980s, with the desire to extend the line to a new station near to the main entrance and car park the ultimate goal.

“The original plans for Willow Lawn station show more than one platform, with different types of buildings, overall roofs and sheds too – these plans did not prove feasible in the end, but with the new platform the station has something of a ‘complete’ feel to it, and certainly makes for an extremely impressive terminus.”
