Protecting schoolchildren from dangerous parking has come a step closer following a second phase of work at Queens’ School on Aldenham Road.
In early June, double-height kerbs were installed around nearby verges to help prevent cars from entering and driving along the pavement.
But councillors warn that more work is still needed.
Laurence Brass, Lib Dem county councillor for Bushey North, who spearheaded the project, said: “A small minority of parents have put children in danger by driving down pavements used by pupils, to find parking spaces on the verges.
“That’s what we must stop, before there’s a serious accident.
“Since the verges were raised, the early signs are encouraging, but we’ve now commissioned a series of extra bollards to block the remaining access points.
“I welcome the support for these measures from Queens’ headteacher Jonathan Morrell and the school’s travel plan co-ordinator.
“I also encourage all motorists to stay off the pavement and instead park in the Met Club for 50p a visit or £60 for a year’s pass”.
