The canteen price list for The Mount Prison in Bovingdon has been revealed, with protein powder being the most expensive item.
In a Freedom of Information Request submitted by KingsNews to the Ministry of Justice, it was revealed that a 750g tub of strawberry protein powder cost £21.59. In a supermarket, 500g of protein powder would cost around £20.
The cheapest item on the list was a single afro comb, which cost inmates 39p.
Other items for sale in the canteen include some of the nation’s favourite sweet treats, including a Cadbury Creme Egg for 55p, Fruit Pastilles for 89p, a Double Decker for 60p, and 16g packet of Haribo Tangfastics for 18p.
A large number of items on the list relate to health and beauty, including shampoo, conditioner, deodorant and shower gel.
The most expensive of these items is an ORS Heat Serum which costs £5.99, with popular haircare brand Herbal Essences costing £4.75 each for a bottle of shampoo and conditioner.
Cheaper health items include a deodorant for £1.50, tweezers for 69p and whitening toothpaste for £1.
The list also included a range of vegan items, such as a vegan soap bar for £2.49 and vegan roll-on deodorant for £4.99.
A Prison Service spokesperson said: “Items are available for prisoners to buy at retail price at their own expense.”
