A tree preservation order was served on Bushey Hall Golf Club on 15 January, meaning that a number of trees cannot be cut down without permission from the Council.
It comes as campaigners strive to block plans for Bushey Hall Golf Course to be redeveloped and used as a site for Watford FC to build a potential new stadium.
Bushey Liberal Democrat Councillor Paul Richards applied for the Tree Preservation Order to protect wooded areas at the golf course in June 2020, in response to reports of Watford FC’s interest in Bushey Hall Golf Club.
Cllr Paul Richards said on social media: “In theory, the order could one day be overturned, and the owners have the right to appeal to Hertsmere’s planning committee. Nevertheless, there is now a huge new obstacle in the way of any attempt to progress the stadium plan.
“We’d like to thank the many hundreds of Bushey North residents who’ve supported our work and helped us put a major barrier in the way of this unwelcome scheme.”
