Plans to demolish a derelict care home in Abbots Langley and build 27 new homes have been approved.
Margaret House care home, located just off Parsonage Close, has stood vacant since 2020.
The home closed its doors after operators Quantum Care declared that the building was no longer fit for purpose for its 51 residents.
Ownership of the site then reverted back to Hertfordshire County Council. In August 2023, the council’s development subsidiary, Herts Living Ltd (HLL), put forward plans for nearly 30 new dwellings on the site, including four two-bed homes, six two-bed flats, six three-bed homes, and 11 one-bed flats.
Several objections were posted on Three Rivers District Council’s (TRDC) planning portal. The central argument against the proposal is the potential increase in traffic.
However, on Friday, August 23, TRDC officers approved the plans, subject to a few conditions, including the consideration of traffic issues during pick-up and drop-off times at the nearby Abbots Langley Primary School.
HLL has been contacted for comment.
