Pinner Women’s Institute makes special remembrance wreath

A special Remembrance wreath has been handmade by members of HA:WI, Pinner’s ‘New Generation’ Women’s Institute. The wreath will be laid at the war memorial in Pinner High Street during this year’s Remembrance Sunday ceremony in the village. The ceremony will take place from 10.40am on Sunday, November 9, and will be attended by the Mayor and other dignitaries, and has been organised by the Pinner Association. This year’s centenary service is in memory of all those who lost their lives in the First World War 1914-1918. Having worked for weeks knitting stunning poppies for Remembrance Sunday for HA-WI members, Pauline Warren, Aydee Hawker and Anne Martin from the craft group decided they would like to take their skills a step further and create a handcrafted wreath using their knitted poppies to be laid at the local service. They enlisted fellow crafter Niamh McEnery to construct the wreath. Niamh, co founder of HA:WI said “HA:WI is honored to be part of the centenary Remembrance service. “The WI has a strong association with the First World War having been founded in 1915 to support the war effort by encouraging women to become more involved in producing food. “The talented ladies from our craft group have been busy knitting to raise funds for the Royal British Legion and have so far raised almost £200.”
