PERMIT PARKED: Annual visitor permit in Rickmansworth to cease in December 2024

On November 27, Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) wrote to residents saying that the annual visitor permit available to Rickmansworth locals in most parking zones would be discontinued from December 1, 2024.

Whilst residents were able to renew their annual visitor permit for one final year, this type of permit will cease to exist come the end of 2024.

The letter reads: “[Annual visitor] permits were originally introduced to assist those residents that needed support and care from regular visitors such as family and friends. Due to alternative permits being available, including visitor scratch cards and doctor and health visitor permits, in conjunction with evidence of misuse of these permits, the council has decided to discontinue the annual visitor permit.”

Residents will still be able to purchase visitor scratch cards online. Additionally, TRDC is looking into making visitor vouchers a virtual permit option and will advise locals when this service becomes available.

Members of the Ricky community have taken to social media to express their dismay. One said that ending the annual visitor permits is “unfair for those who have family who don’t want professional carers”, adding that relying on the scratch-card permits will “cost the residents so much more if needed regularly”.

A spokesperson for TRDC confirmed that the annual visitor permit will be discontinued in a year’s time and recommended that regular parkers check their options on the council website at shorturl.at/ixAEK
