PARK RESTORATION: Volunteer planting session helps to ‘create sustainable landscape’ in South Ruislip

Published on: 4th October 2025   |   By: Naomi Greenaway   |   Category: Uncategorized

Last month, volunteers from Woodlarks and Waders were joined by the Mayor of Hillingdon councillor Philip Corthorne as they helped to boost biodiversity in South Ruislip’s Spider Park.

The event was organised by Hillingdon Council in partnership with the river restoration project, which aims to reduce the impact of future extreme weather events.

A team of over 30 men, women and children came together to plant thousands of water-loving reeds and plants along the riverbank.

Woodlarks and Waders continue to work alongside the council as well as independently, with their ethos of creating better habitats for wildlife and improving conditions for the plants to grow.

Councillor Eddie Lavery, Hillingdon Council’s cabinet member for community and environment, said: “This project is one of the innovative ways we’re tackling the climate emergency to help keep residents and their homes safe, but also to create a more sustainable, diverse landscape, and we’re grateful for the enthusiastic volunteers who have contributed to it.”
