Tring news spoke with local artist Sevim Saunders about her work, inspiration, and using art to tell a story.
Sevim moved to Tring from Turkey in 2006 after studying fine art throughout school and university. She took a break when she had her family before returning to the art world.
She said: “My subjects are usually portraits, landscapes, or animal paintings. I like different things, things that move. I want to tell a story through my style; my work is quite expressive.”
The artist paints using acrylic – which she says is because of her “impatience” – on various surfaces including canvas, wood, oil paper and wood panels. Sevim now has a studio in her back garden in Tring where she creates her masterpieces.
Sevim explained that she strives to create art that tells a story. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Sevim painted NHS nurses to share her appreciation for their work and raised nearly £500 in the process, which she donated to NHS Charities Together. The painting is now framed at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.
She also painted the late Captain Sir Tom Moore following his death.
Sevim has exhibited her work in various places, including the Goldfried Frogs Christmas Fair last year, and her work is sold at Maggie J & Co. in Tring, where new Christmas art will be available.
